Travel Idea: Best of Scandinavia

Scandinavia in Northern Europe can consist of different countries, with or without Finland or the Baltic states. What they have in common is the climate, snow in winter and a low population density. Looking for nature and outdoor sports? You have come to the right place!

Bergen

Bergen

Bergen is the second largest city in Norway and known for the colourful harbour and (unfortunately) the rain. From here there are great trips to Voss and Flam.

Copenhagen

Nordkapp

Nordkapp

The most Northern point of Europe has a large metal globe as a proof. In summer it is memorable to stand here in the middle of the night and watch how sunset and sunrise merge over the Nordic sea, without the sun ever disappearing.

Oslo

Oslo

The capital of Norway is a busy place, compared to the rest of Norway, but relaxed compared to many world cities. Tourists may like the Aker Brygge harbour with its many restaurants, the Vigeland park with its many naked statues and possibly the huge Holmenkollen ski jump.

Reykjavik

Reykjavik

Capital of Iceland, Reykjavik is still a small city. The houses are mostly made of wood and very colorful. The church is the main attraction in a country where nature means everything. You will - of course - be able to bath in one of the natural hot springs and choose to keep your cloth on (or not).

Rovaniemi

Rovaniemi (Lapland)

Rovaniemi is certainly in winter a major city with activities like dog sledding and northern light viewing. Winter hotel and similar lodging are a unique experience.

Stavanger

Stavanger is a "major" city in Southwest Norway near several fjords. A very popular day trek is to climb Preikestolen (~ Preachers Chair) with magnificent views straight down an extremely steep cliff.

Stockholm

Stockholm

Stockholm is nested on many islands and one of the most beautiful cities in the Northern European countries. There is always something to do, whether cultural, musical or for business. Note that Swedish like to celebrate the 21st of June, the beginning of summer.

Svalbard

Svalbard (Spitsbergen)

Svalbard (Spitsbergen) is a large group of islands north of Norway. Capital Longyearbyen. It is very cold up there and completely dark in winter! Few people live here, who mainly live of tourism and fishing. You should be aware of polar bears.
