North America (USA, Canada, Mexico, Greenland) is a large continent. Most American cities may look similar with high-rises and skyscrapers, but there are a few exceptions. When it comes to nature and wildlife, there is so much to see and look out for from mountains to hot springs, from polar bears to orcas.

Banff National Park

Banff is a very touristy little town in southern Alberta. Oner of the most famous attractions is the Banff Springs Hotel.

Banff National Park is one of the best places to enjoy the Rocky Mountains with beautiful snowy mountains, blue glacier lakes, canoeing opportunities and hiking trails. Highlights include Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.

Chichén Itzá

Chichén Itzá is probably the most famous archeological site in Mexico and North America. About 1000-1500 years ago it was one of the largest Mayan cities and surrounded by myths and religious beliefs,

The site features different architectural styles. "El Castillo" (the castle) was the way to the Sun and is still one of the most famous buildings.

Denali National Park, an international biosphere reserve, offers a wide variety of wildlife, in particular Grizzly Bears and Moose. A large part of this large park is inaccessible and has no roads whatsoever.

Glacier Bay is a large National Park (13,000 km2) consisting of wilderness area, mountains, ice fields, flora and fauna (bears, wolves, lynx, orcas, humpback wales). No roads lead to the park. You can get there either by ferry/cruise or air.

The Grand Canyon is really grand. When standing on the ridge of the canyon and looking 1 mile (1600m) down to the river Colorado that created all this, you do owe the river a lot of respect. It is possible to walk all the way down and back up in a day, what can be recommended.

The Gulf of California, also known as the Sea of Cortés, is the sea that separates the Baja California Peninsula from the Mexican mainland. It is also called "The World's Aquarium", for obvious reasons.

Las Vegas is the show and gambling capital of the USA and the Western world. The city is featured in many, many movies and TV series. Las Vegas is a desert city with water coming from Lake Mead.

The Las Vegas strip is the best known with casinos, fancy hotels and top-class resorts. You can also find the Eiffel Tower, Little Venice, a Pyramid and Lady Liberty here. Of course you can get married here with Elvis Presley as your witness.

New York City has a few nick names, for example "The Big Apple", "The City That Never Sleeps" and "The Financial Capital of the World". We cannot list everything that there is to do in NYC, because it is too much. The basics however are the Statue of Liberty, Times Square, Broadway, Little Italy / China Town and the Empire State Building.

It has been designated as an international biosphere reserve and is famous for its giant icebergs, huge mountains, tundra landscapes, fjords, musk oxen, polar bears and the best spots in the world to see northern lights. In winter almost nobody lives here.

Vancouver is considered one of the most beautiful major cities in the world thanks to its natural setting. Located between the sea and the Rocky mountains you can go sailing, wale watching as well as skiing on the same day. Vancouver is featured in many movies and is the starting point for cruises to Alaska.

The Yellowstone is the oldest National Park in the USA and hosts a wide variety of animal life (incl. bears and buffalo) and vegetation. The natural beauty will make quite an impression. Beneath the Yellowstone there is volcanic activity that causes many hot pools and geysers ("Old Faithful").
