Discover the rivers Danube with cities like Belgrade, Novi Sad.
Positioned strategically in the heart of the Balkans along the sweeping currents of the Danube River, Serbia unites a turbulent imperial history with one of the most energetic, forward-looking social cultures in Europe. The capital, Belgrade, is famous for the massive Belgrade Fortress overlooking the confluence of two rivers, as well as its historic bohemian quarters and floating river clubs. Renowned globally for its value and vibrant hospitality, Serbia captivates travellers with the tranquil Orthodox monasteries hidden within the rolling hills of Fruška Gora, the dramatic stone pillars of Devil's Town, and a hearty culinary scene built around legendary grilled meats and local plum brandies.
DanubeThe River Danube flows from Southern Germany to the Black Sea. It is not only a busy waterway between central and eastern Europe, but also a very romantic river taking you along cities like Vienna, Budapest, Belgrade and Bucharest.

Below are our most visited cities, destinations and national parks in Serbia.
Belgrade (71)
Belgrade, 'White City', is the capital and largest city of Serbia. It was one of the stops of the Orient Express and still serves as a center on the Balkan with river cruises and other touristic attractions.
Budapest (65)
Budapest is the capital of Hungary and consists of two cities: Buda and Pest. Cited as one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest's extensive World Heritage Site includes the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes' Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the second-oldest metro line in the world.
Vienna (53)
Vienna is a beautiful place to visit and live in. World famous are not only the old buildings, but also the (classical) music festivals and operas, the Schönbrunn castle, Lippizaner horses and "Prater". A concert is a must!
Bucharest (49)
Bucharest is the capital and largest city of Romania. The city's architecture earned it the nicknames of Little Paris or Paris of the East
Passau (30)
Passau is also known as the Dreiflüssestadt ("City of Three Rivers") because the Danube is joined there by the Inn from the south and the Ilz from the north. The city exists for more than 2000 years.
Regensburg (23)
Nuremberg (21)
Linz (17)
Linz is the third-largest city in Austria, located at the Danube river.

When is the best time to travel?
Most people travel in the high season, when the schools are closed and the temperatures are the highest. This may make sense for beach vacations with children. But remember that these periods (July and August in Europe + N-America, China & Japan) are by far the busiest. There will be crowds everywhere.
The hottest season has become even hotter and dryer in the past few years due to climate change, sometimes resulting in forest fires. Sometimes temperatures have become unbearable. In extreme cases attractions may close during the hottest times of the day.
Due to seasonal droughts and low water levels, some river cruises may not be able to go everywhere as planned. This may lead to cancellations and itinerary changes for example on the Rhine and Danube.
For the above reasons we highly recommend travelling in the shoulder season, just before or after the peak season. Fewer people travel, temperatures are still nice, accommodations are cheaper and there are no problems with heat or drought. This is the best time to travel!
