Es gibt weder auf der Nord- noch auf der Südinsel Neuseelands viele wild lebende Tiere. Dies liegt hauptsächlich daran, dass es sich um ein neues und abgelegenes Land handelt, das vom Meer auferstanden ist. Sie finden viel Platz, Natur in allen Variationen, viele Schafe und den einheimischen Kea-Vogel (einen kleinen Papagei). Im äußersten Süden können Sie sogar einige Pinguinarten und den mächtigen Albatros finden. Wenn Sie hierher kommen, mögen Sie es, weg von allem zu sein, und es macht Ihnen nichts aus, ein wenig zu frösteln, ein bisschen Wind oder etwas Regen zu spüren. Einheimische nennen sich Kiwis, wie der Vogel und die Frucht.
ChristchurchChristchurch ist die größte Stadt der Südinsel. Die Stadt wurde 2010 und 2011 von zwei Erdbeben (Stärke 7,1 und 6,3) heimgesucht, bei denen 185 Menschen ums Leben kamen. Der Schaden ist im Stadtzentrum noch sehr gut sichtbar, wo echte Ruinen und verlassene Gebäude sich jetzt in der Nachbarschaft von brandneuen Büros und Restaurants befinden.
