Petra is called the "Rose City" for its rock-cut architecture and water conduit system and the colour of the sandstone from which it is carved. Petra is believed to have been settled as early as 7,000 BC. It has been named as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.

Amman is the capital and largest city of Jordan and the country's economic, political and cultural center.

Wadi Rum (aka. valley of the moon) is a valley cut into sandstone and rock in the south.
