The island is today split in two parts with an actual border in between: the southern, larger part is called Greek Cyprus. The Northern part is called Turkish Cyprus. The Greek part is part of the European Union, but the Turkish part is not. (Re) Unification may happen, one day. Tourists now enjoy the warm climate, excellent beaches, rich culture and exotic location.
