Laos is a very relaxed country. Vientiane, the capital, has very few airplanes at the airport and probably never any traffic jams. Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang are the places where most tourists end up. Be aware of the strange drinks here, with snakes and scorpions.

Luang Prabang is a pleasant city at the Mekong river, with traditional Laos-style buildings ( Unesco-heritage). There are boat connections up-stream to Chiang Mai, Thailand.
