Visit destinations like South Georgia.
Rising dramatically from the stormy waters of the Southern Ocean, South Georgia is a remote, subantarctic wilderness hosting one of the greatest concentrations of wildlife on the planet. Witness the staggering sight of hundreds of thousands of King Penguins carpeting the black sand beaches of Salisbury Plain and St. Andrews Bay, alongside massive, roaring colonies of southern elephant seals. Framed by jaw-dropping alpine peaks, hanging glaciers, and a hauntingly beautiful coastline, this rugged island is also steeped in polar history as the final resting place of legendary explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton. A voyage to South Georgia is a profound, raw encounter with untamed nature. The Falkland Islands, South Georgia, South Orkney Islands and South Shetland Islands are all claimed by (far-away) Great Britain and (nearby) Argentina.

Below are our most visited cities, destinations and national parks in South Georgia.
South Georgia (28)
South Georgia is an island in the southern Atlantic Ocean. South Georgia is a breeding ground for elephant seals, fur seals, and king penguins. It has the nickname "Galapagos of the Arctics".
Ushuaia (28)
Ushuaia, an exotic name for a remote little city. You are at Tierra del Fuego, the most southern part of South-America. You may still see a few animals, but mostly it is wild, windy and abandoned. The Panamerican Highway that starts in Alaska ends here... Boat expeditions to the Antarctic may depart here.
Antarctic Peninsula (23)
The Antarctic Peninsula is the part of Antarctica just South of Argentina and Chile, where most cruises go. Besides tourists and ice, you may encounter penguins and scientist here.
Falkland Islands (23)
Falkland Islands (aka Islas Malvinas) is a (British ruled) group of islands East of Patagonia, Argentina. They are part of the mild Antarctic zone, with similar flora and fauna as Patagonia with many mammals and birds (e.g. the albatros).
Buenos Aires (8)
Buenos Aires is known as the "Paris of the South". It has beautiful allees, great shopping and of course the Tango in the colorfull city part "La Boca"! Note that Buenos Aires is different from the rest of Argentina.
Puerto Madryn (6)
Puerto Madryn is a coastal city in Patagonia. It is well-known for the nearby Valdes Peninsula with a lot of "wild" life, if you can call all those sweet Penguins and chubby Sea Elephants "wild"... You may have a real opportunity to see Orcas here.

Cancellation may be bound to fees, depending on when you cancel and the tour price. The tour operator will have incurred expenses that it may not be able to recover and now has to find someone else to travel in your place. Some operators allow you to re-schedule without a fine.
When is the best time to travel?
Most people travel in the high season, when the schools are closed and the temperatures are the highest. This may make sense for beach vacations with children. But remember that these periods (July and August in Europe + N-America, China & Japan) are by far the busiest. There will be crowds everywhere.
The hottest season has become even hotter and dryer in the past few years due to climate change, sometimes resulting in forest fires. Sometimes temperatures have become unbearable. In extreme cases attractions may close during the hottest times of the day.
Due to seasonal droughts and low water levels, some river cruises may not be able to go everywhere as planned. This may lead to cancellations and itinerary changes for example on the Rhine and Danube.
For the above reasons we highly recommend travelling in the shoulder season, just before or after the peak season. Fewer people travel, temperatures are still nice, accommodations are cheaper and there are no problems with heat or drought. This is the best time to travel!
We have 3 cruise operators that conduct 28 sea cruises and expeditions in South Georgia with duration 3 Weeks and rates starting at USD 9,981.
