There isn't a lot of wildlife on either North- or South Island of New Zealand and this mainly because it is a new and remote country, risen from the sea. You will find a lot of space, nature in all varieties, plenty of sheep and the local Kea bird (a small parrot). In the far south you may even find a few penguin species and the mighty Albatross. When you come here, you like to be away from it all and you don't mind a little chill, a bit of wind or some rain. Locals call themselves Kiwis, like the bird and the fruit.

Auckland is the largest and most populous urban area in the country, but not the capital (Wellington). 1/3 of New Zealand's population lives here. Auckland is a great location if you like sailing. You can also jump from the TV-tower - attached to a rope...

Cairns is close to the Great Barrier Reef and therewith a center for diving and excursions.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world. It is approx. 2300 km long, the size of Germany or New Mexico and can be seen from outer space. A true Wonder of the Natural World.
