Bhutan is a peaceful, safe and very friendly country in the Eastern Himalayas. If you are looking for backpacking, discos, beaches and party time, you have come to the wrong country. Bhutan is very quiet, but offers magnificent monasteries, great scenery and excellent (!) hotels. People love their royal family. TRADITION is written in capitals (e.g. clothing). But it is pricy (USD 200-250 per person, per day) and you can only visit in a tour (with a local operator).
About ThimpuThe Capital of Bhutan (approx. 80´000 inhabitants) is quite relaxing like the rest of Bhutan. The main government buildings are here, shared with Buddhist monasteries. You may find locals practicing the national sports of Archery (bow and long arrow). There are some REALLY nice hotels, like the heritage hotel and the Taj - but not cheap.
