India and China are the most populous countries on the planet. India is called "a continent by itself" even though it is part of Asia. It is very colorful with lots of traditions, festivities, sports (very British), dance, film and music (Bollywood!). Indian kitchen & cooking with curries, chapatis, vegies, chilis, etc is world-famous and delicious. Financial wealth is not spread evenly: a small percentage of the people is extremely rich, a middle class with good education is comparable to western standards and the majority is still very, very poor.

About Kolkata
Kolkata (Calcutta) is one of the three gigantic cities in India. It is probably the poorest, where riksjas can still be on foot. Mother Theresa lived three for many years to care for a needy population.
