Iran, former Persia, is a large country. Like most of it's neighbours Islam is state religion. Women (incl. tourists) should cover their hair and be dressed decently at all times, even if not Muslim. Iranian people are very, very friendly and like to talk to you, without trying to sell or cheat. Yet women should not travel alone. There is a also beautiful architecture in Isfahan and ancient heritage sites like Shiraz.

Shiraz is one of the top tourist cities in Iran and is known as the city of poets, literature and flowers. It is also considered by many Iranians to be the city of gardens. Shiraz has historically had major Jewish and Christian communities.
