Iran, former Persia, is a large country. Like most of it's neighbours Islam is state religion. Women (incl. tourists) should cover their hair and be dressed decently at all times, even if not Muslim. Iranian people are very, very friendly and like to talk to you, without trying to sell or cheat. Yet women should not travel alone. Israel and the USA started a war against Iran on 27-Feb-2026. Missiles and bombs followed killing thousands all across the country. Tourist centres like Esfahan and Shiraz were also hit. Till further notice it is not safe to travel to Iran. US and Israeli citizens should avoid Iran indefinitely.
