There isn't a lot of wildlife on either North- or South Island of New Zealand and this mainly because it is a new and remote country, risen from the sea. You will find a lot of space, nature in all varieties, plenty of sheep and the local Kea bird (a small parrot). In the far south you may even find a few penguin species and the mighty Albatross. When you come here, you like to be away from it all and you don't mind a little chill, a bit of wind or some rain. Locals call themselves Kiwis, like the bird and the fruit.
About RotoruaRotorua is best known for the underground geothermic activity, like hot springs, geysirs and mud pools. Even the soil on the camp ground may be "warm"... The tourism industry is by far the largest industry in the district.
