North Vietnam has hills and mountains. It is a very varied and scenic landscape, with lots of rice terraces, colorful tribal populations and one of the largest waterfalls of Asia. Sapa may be a touristy centre, but there are also great options for sightseeing on a motor cycle. It is a great place to spend two or three weeks.
